history:
Cloud Ten began when Joe LeValley and Kevin King became acquainted through their mutual service on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Association (IRRMA). One Saturday in 2013 Kevin needed a drummer for a performance in downtown Des Moines by the IRRMA "All-Stars," and called Joe to see if he could sit in. Joe readily agreed and had a great time performing with four other musicians involved with IRRMA. Shane Von Holdt also was one of the musicians performing that day. Joe was extremely impressed with both Kevin and Shane.
A couple of months later, when Joe was asked to perform for a party celebrating the grand opening of a medical clinic in his hometown of Dayton, he called Kevin and asked him to join the performance. Kevin called Shane and the three of them performed for a street dance. However, the publicity for the event was done before it was known Shane would be joining, so Joe and Kevin had a lot of fun, at Shane's expense, with the fact the band was billed as "LeValley and King." The stage banner for "LeValley and King" still hangs in the barn at Joe's Dallas County acreage.
Since the summer of 2013, the band has adopted the name "Cloud Ten" to emphasize the level of enjoyment they experience performing, and the type of experience they attempt to create for audiences. The band's logo was designed by Joe's daughter, Rachel Abel, a founding principal in the design firm "818" based in Des Moines.
Sadlly, bass player Shane Von Holdt passed away unexpectedly. His shoes have not been easy to fill, and his warm, wonderful personality impossible to replace. RIP dear friend.
